For cleaning and disinfecting bathroom and kitchen surfaces.
A 500mL spray bottle
1/4 cup white vinegar (or rubbing isopropyl alcohol)
10 drops tea tree oil
10 drops lavender oil
10 drops peppermint oil or lemon oil (whatever you prefer)
2 cups water
Place the vinegar in the spray bottle. Add the essential oils, close the bottle and shake well. Top up with water.
It looks lovely C... but, i would remind people that rubbing alcohol is poisonous, so don't put in so much peppermint that it smells like something to drink...

Yes! So vinegar is a better choice, and also if you like you can put more essential oils to your liking (up to double).
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S why I can't use that stuff without gloves! I'm allergic to tea tree oil.
ReplyDeleteapparently, it's pretty easy to develop an allergy to it, too (not when it's dried/evaporated, of course). i wonder if another essential oil could replace it - is it antibacterial or antifungal, or what? (i'd like to use it at home)
Tea tree is the strongest antibacterial essential oil, but lemon oil comes really close!
ReplyDeleteJust replace tea tree with lemon and then add lavender and peppermint with it (all these are antibacterial and antifungal, they're not just pretty smells :-)
I'll make this new brew for the co-op so you can use without gloves!
To fill a 4L jug, the quantities would be:
ReplyDeletewater: 2 cups X 7 = 14 cups
vinegar: 1/4 cup X 7 = 1 3/4 cups
essential oils: 10 drops x 6 = 70 drops
For a stronger solution, use more vinegar with 60-70 drops of essential oils:
13 cups water + 3 cups vinegar

12 cups water + 4 cups vinegar
